VIJAYAWADA: Detectives from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have uncovered several irregularities in the issuance of permits for buildings during recent raids on the planning wing of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). The ACB found that officials engaged in irregularities in issuing permissions for unauthorized buildings and rejected building plans.

Following complaints received on the ACB 14400 toll-free number and mobile app, officials conducted an inspection at the VMC office on Monday. The raids continued on Tuesday and ACB officials visited planning offices in three circles. They found that planning employees colluded with builders and granted building permits without following SOPs.

“Majority of the construction plans issued by the planning staff are against the rules and deviate from the plan submitted to the VMC,” said ACB ASP K Maheswara Raju. He added that they had submitted a detailed report to the CEO of CDA for further action.
