BRANFORD, CT – Planner Harry Smith is encouraging residents to attend, albeit virtually, a community meeting scheduled later this month to have their voices heard on the Affordable Housing Plan process.

Organized by the Planning and Zoning Commission, the purpose of the Zoom meeting is to seek input on the draft 2022-2027 Affordable Housing Plan for Branford. Every municipality in Connecticut must adopt an affordable housing plan by June 1. The city’s Affordable Housing Steering Committee has a draft plan it will share at the March 24 meeting.

The project examines current and future housing needs in Branford and identifies ways to meet them, reads a press release from the city. It is expected that the housing plan will be used by local councils, agencies and staff for future planning purposes.

“This meeting is an important opportunity to help us understand housing needs and consider alternative housing strategies,” Smith said.
