Hyderabad: The Urban Planning Wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has witnessed a massive growth of 73% in its revenue collection for the year 2021-22.
The Town Planning wing raked in Rs Rs.1,144.08 crore from Rs 661 crore in 2020-21. This fiscal year, the civic body issued 17,572 building permits and 1,550 certificates of occupancy (OCs) compared to 11,538 building permits and 1,574 OCs in 2020-21.
The unprecedented real estate growth is also due to increased development in various parts of the city. Construction of sky bridges and connecting roads to ease traffic flow, availability of potable water along with uninterrupted power supply have also helped attract new commercial and residential projects to Hyderabad, according to a press release.
Introduction of Telangana State Building Permits Approval and Self-Certification System (TS-bPASS) has ensured hassle-free building permits, increased number of applications and timely clearance .
The civic body further cited the Covid-19 pandemic as the reason for the coffers being depleted and with several sectors suffering losses. This has led the government to offer an installment facility for the payment of building permit fees.
Other factors that negatively impacted construction activity in 2020-21 include a shortage of construction labor during the lockdown and the following months
