Stephen Lewis, chief executive of HFD Property Group, will be appointed chairman of the Scottish Property Federation (SPF) at the organisation’s annual conference in Edinburgh today.

Stephen Lewis succeeds Kevin Robertson, managing director of KR Developments, who chaired the SPF since April 2021. Maria Francké, director at MF Planning, will take over as vice-president of the SPF.

Stephen has over 25 years of commercial real estate experience in the private and public sectors across a range of roles including asset management, agency and development. Leading Glasgow-based HFD Group’s property division since 2008, Stephen was instrumental in delivering Glasgow’s first net-zero carbon office development at 177 Bothwell Street.

Stephen Lewis said: “I am delighted to lead the SPF at this important time for Scotland’s built environment. With the pandemic recovery underway, it is time for us to look to the future and ensure our industry is in the best possible position to meet the changing and diverse needs of communities across Scotland.

“Significant challenges remain, however, including the continued headwinds affecting our cities and town centers and the enormous challenge ahead of us to decarbonize new and existing buildings. We are also facing rising costs in many sectors of our industry because of energy and materials. Collaboration will be essential to address these important issues, not only between industry and local and national governments, but also within industry, as these problems will be better addressed collectively. My priority from day one will be to strengthen these essential relationships and seek to forge new partnerships.

“I also look forward to using my new role to continue the remarkable work started by my predecessor to support the next generation of real estate professions and to reach people who may not have considered a career in our industry before.”

Kevin Robertson, outgoing President of the Scottish Property Federation, said: “It has been an honor to lead the SPF over the past year and a real privilege to meet members and other stakeholders from across the country who have participated in incredible projects. in these unprecedented times. Having worked closely with Stephen and Maria, I know they are well placed to lead the SPF through this period of industry transformation, and I wish them every success.
